Perineal Preparation for Childbirth With Kath

I’ve got a really practical episode for you today about a subject which some women may never have heard about. Today I’m diving into the big topic of perineal preparation for childbirth, what it is and why you need to know about it.

In this episode, I start out with a brief anatomy lesson to help you discover the important part of your body that connects your pelvic floor. I talk you through a massage technique that you can do at home to help with the physical and mental preparation for birth. This will get your body ready for the sensation of stretch during crowning, often referred to as the ‘ring of fire’.

I discuss mindset and how doing this exercise will help you relax into the sensation of stretch instead of tensing up with fear. Perineal massage has been statistically proven to prevent tares and reduce the risk of episiotomies so it’s certainly something I think is worth doing to prepare...

As a pelvic floor physio, I get asked a lot of questions from women wanting to know how to protect their pelvic floor during pregnancy.  I also work with many women who have already given birth and are needing to regain some strength in that all important area.  It can be daunting with so much unknown and I’m here to break it down into bite size pieces so you can approach labour with confidence.
